Student Email Migration - UPDATE

As of January 10, all registered students have had their email migrated to the new https://StudentMail.aus.edu mail platform. Please log in to StudentMail from this point forward. Any messages which were in https://mail.aus.edu should now exist in StudentMail.

We will be taking https://mail.aus.edu offline permanently on February 4, 2010. If there is any information missing from your StudentMail account, please notify us before that date in order for us to attempt recovery. If we are contacted after that date - we will be unable to recover your messages for you.

Please visit THIS LINK for answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about the new service.

If you require additional assistance - please contact the Computing Support Help Desk (helpdesk@aus.edu) at ext. 2100.

Thank you.

Student Email Migration

As we announced earlier this year, AUS selected a new email system after a year of review and testing. The system we chose has now been in production for the past six months and almost all faculty and staff have been moved over to using it.

Starting on January 2nd, 2010, we will begin the process of migrating all active students to the new mail platform. The steps that will occur are outlined below:

  1. IT will lock student mailboxes at 8PM on January 2nd so they will be unavailable for use
  2. While mailboxes are locked, IT will begin creating the mailboxes and accounts on the new StudentMail service. During this time, all incoming messages will be put into a hold on our mail servers and Students will no longer be able to access http://mail.aus.edu. WE EXPECT THIS TO BE COMPLETE BY 8AM on JAN 4th
  3. Students can begin using their new mailbox at https://studentmail.aus.edu beginning on Jan 4th. New messages sent to their @aus.edu email will be delivered into the new mailbox and they can begin sending messages out as well.
  4. IT will migrate any mail currently visible at http://mail.aus.edu of registered and admitted students to the new mail platform. These will appear inside the user inbox as the migration process occurs.

Based on our performance testing, we expect that we will be able to complete the entire email migration process before January 12, 2010.

SOME OF THE NEW BENEFITS YOU'LL SEE IMMEDIATELY:
  • Larger mailbox quota (500MB - with plans to increase in the future)
  • Built-in calendaring
  • Fast, reliable search capabilities
  • Mobile format for use on phones and portable devices
  • User-friendly web interface (using same technology as Yahoo! mail)
  • Ability to tag and sort messages similar to what is available in GMail
CHANGES YOU'LL NEED TO MAKE:
  • New webmail site - https://studentmail.aus.edu
  • Clients like Blackberry, Outlook, Eudora, Thunderbird, Mail.app, etc will need to be changed to use secure authentication with the new server. Instructions will be provided once the migration has begun and can be obtained via the webmail and the ITD Frequently Asked Questions Website. If the changes are not made, you will not be able to access any new mail coming into your mailbox using clients like Blackberry, Outlook, Eudora, Thunderbird, Mail.app, etc .

We believe that the new mail services will be very useful and appealing to you and we are proud to bring you this new service.

Thank you.

New E-Mail Service Coming to AUS

Over the past years, the IT Department in partnership with various members of the AUS community have been working at improving the services we offer our community. Our mail service (https://mail.aus.edu) has been consistently running at the top of items that most people wanted to see improved (along with Internet speed which we've been progressively addressing). To that end, we would like to announce the selection and deployment of a new mail service for the future.

The new service, called MailSpot (https://mailspot.aus.edu), is in the process of being rolled out to the academic and administrative staff now, continuing through the remainder of this year. Our goal is to move everyone over to the new service by the end of December 2009. This new service (based on the Zimbra mail platform) enables a much more impressive feature set than what we currently have and is similar to Yahoo's and Google's web interfaces. The new interface provides e-mail, calendaring, address books and additional features we may activate in the future.

We hope that the new service is helpful and provides for your needs as a member of the AUS community.

Thank you and we're looking forward to seeing you return in the Fall.
